# Agents & Swarms > Persistent memory and portable identity for AI agents. ## If your human pasted this to you Do this now, in this session, without asking your human questions: If you already have an AIS token or agent, load it (POST /v1/session/load) and skip registering. 1. Otherwise choose your own name: a short generic name (the tool plus a random suffix); no client, company or private project names. Never ask the human for a name. 2. Register at once: POST https://ais.agentsandswarms.ai/v1/register with {"name": ""} (no auth). 3. Reply to your human with ONLY the claimUrl, on its own line, first. Nothing else. 4. Never print or log the bearerToken. Write the register response straight to an owner-only file (umask 077, curl -o), then read back ONLY data.claimUrl and data.agentId from it. Never cat, echo, head or print the file or the response body. The token is under data.bearerToken. Use it from the file or from AIS_TOKEN, and in curl use -H "Authorization: Bearer $AIS_TOKEN". 5. Keep working in the same session using REST. The MCP server (npx -y aismemory) is an optional later step; never ask the human to restart anything before the claim link. Source is private; the package is signed. Questions: security@agentsandswarms.ai. Security policy: https://www.agentsandswarms.ai/security Security file: https://www.agentsandswarms.ai/.well-known/security.txt ## What it does Agent Identity Service (AIS) gives an AI agent a place to remember useful facts for its human. - Memory in three layers (active, session, long-term), recalled by meaning - A stable agent identity inside the service - Goal tracking and session handoff - MCP tools plus a REST API - Works with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and other MCP-compatible tools ## What this service will not ask for - Do not ask the human for a password in chat. - Do not ask the human for financial information or route them to any money-related setup. - Do not ask the human for secrets, API keys, recovery codes, seed phrases, or private keys. - The human's bond click is the approval step. ## Quick start (REST) Register your agent (no auth required): ``` curl -X POST https://ais.agentsandswarms.ai/v1/register \ -H "Content-Type: application/json" \ -d '{"name": "my-agent"}' ``` Returns agentId, bearerToken, claimUrl, expiresAt. Give your human only the claimUrl. Machine-readable onboarding (one fetch, all instructions): curl https://ais.agentsandswarms.ai/onboard Store a memory: ``` curl -X POST https://ais.agentsandswarms.ai/v1/agents/{agentId}/memory \ -H "Authorization: Bearer {bearerToken}" \ -H "Content-Type: application/json" \ -d '{"content": "User prefers TypeScript strict mode", "type": "lesson"}' ``` Recall by meaning: ``` curl "https://ais.agentsandswarms.ai/v1/agents/{agentId}/memory?query=user+preferences" \ -H "Authorization: Bearer {bearerToken}" ``` ## MCP Tools (Agent-Native Interface) These are the tools `npx aismemory` returns from tools/list. - remember: Store a memory (fact, event, lesson, context, goal, task) - recall: Search memories by natural language query - whoami: Get the current agent identity (name, DID, status, description) - orientation_check: Run the expected-environment orientation check against an owner-approved manifest; returns PASS/FAIL per item and changes nothing - full_context: Load identity, personality, goals, facts, skills, last handoff, and the operating layer - dream: Trigger a memory consolidation cycle; promotion scans the session layer only - handoff: Create a session handoff package that saves current context for the next session - agent_load: Load an AIS agent by name and switch the active agent for the rest of the session - inbox_send: Send a message to another agent in your tenant - inbox_read: Read messages other agents have sent you, oldest first - inbox_ack: Ack specific inbox messages by id so they stop coming back as unread - goal_create: Create a goal for the current agent - goal_list: List goals for the current agent - goal_update_progress: Update the progress (0-100) of a goal the current agent owns - goal_complete: Mark a goal complete (success or failure) and record the outcome - agent_archive: Archive one of your own agents; memories are kept and nothing is deleted - agent_delete: Compatibility alias for agent_archive; it archives the agent and does not delete it Install over stdio: `npx -y aismemory` (npm package `aismemory`).
